Pericles

Pericles was an important leader of Athens responsible for the construction of the Parthenon, who died of plague during the Peloponnesian War.

Pericles was responsible for rebuilding Athens after the Persians destroyed Athens in the Persian Wars. Pericles was leader of Athens during the Peloponnesian War, but he died of the plague that ravaged the city. Pericles was so important that the era in which he lived is named for him.
