Freyr and Gerd
In Norse mythology, the story is told of the courting of Gerd by the god Freyr and his servant Skirnir.

Freyr fell in love with Gerd who lived in the Underworld and so he sent his servant Skirnir to persuade her to marry him. Skirnir's journey represents the journey of the Sun across the sky and into the underworld.
Freyr is a beautiful Vanir fertility god, son of Njord and Skadi. His wife was the giantess Gerd. Freyr is the is the god of sun and rain, and the patron of bountiful harvests.
