Definition:

The Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius not only ruled and carried on wars abroad, but wrote his thoughts in a personal document treating philosophy known as the Meditations. Although a Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius wrote his Meditations in Greek. The philosophy behind the Meditations is Stoicism. The Meditations has been compared with a modern self-help book and the kind of thinking and many of the personal observations Marcus Aurelius makes in his Meditations could be applied constructively by people today.

Examples:
"No form of Nature is inferior to Art; for the arts merely imitate natural forms." Meditations. xi. 10.
