Sir William Smith (1813-1893), author of A Smaller History of Greece also wrote the Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities (1842). Knighted a year before his death, Smith was a lexicographer from University College, London, according to A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, by John W. Cousin.

Note that in this E-text, some of the orthography has been changed.
