The Ancient Site of the Olympic games

The name Olympia is familiar to everyone as an adjective -- as in the Olympic Games, which were originally held in Olympia, Greece in 6 B.C. to honor Zeus. Olympia, which was inhabited from the third millennium B.C. was the location of the sanctuary to the Olympian Zeus.

Important monuments at Olympia were the temple of Zeus, the temple of Hera, the Bouleuterion, the Philippeion, the Leonidaion, the Palaestra, Pheidias' workshop, the Gymnasium, the Prytaneion, and the treasuries.
