Definition: Pericles built an odeum (odeon) near the theater of Dionysus in Athens in about 444 B.C. The odeum was a theater with a roof built for acoustical purposes for musical performances during the panathenaea. After this odeum was detroyed by the Greeks to defend themselves against, Sulla, in 86 B.C., the odeum was rebuilt by Agrippa in about 15 B.C.
