A metron (=measure) is the smallest unit in Greek poetic meter. A metron is composed of a set number of long and short syllables or anceps. A metron is the equivalent of a foot in Latin (or English) verse. The plural of metron is metra. In a line of Greek poetry, the metron would be repeated a number of times, depending on the meter.
