Heracles was sometimes called Alcides or Alcaeus

Heracles was the most popular heroic figure in Greek mythology. A demigod, he was phenomenally strong, brave, and resourceful.

When Hercules was taking his bride Deianeira home, the centaur Nessus volunteered to ferry her across the water. His intentions were dishonorable. When he tried to rape her, Hercules killed him, with dire consequences.
