Sozomen

By N.S. Gill, About.com

Definition: Sozomen, born in Palestine perhaps around 380, was the author of an Ecclesiastical History that was used by Gregory the Great, Cassiodorus and others. His history begins with the third consulship of Crispus and Constantine and ends in the 17th consulship of Theodosius II, in 439. Sozomen makes some corrections to inaccuracies reported by Socrates and his style is more literary. Sozomen's sources include information from eye witnesses, legal, imperial and other documents, Sabinus, Athanasius, Rufinus, and Eusebius
