Myth - Rel. - Huitzilopochtli (Aztec)

Huitzilopochtli was the Aztec god of the obsidian knife who sprang forth from his mother's belly to kill his siblings.

Huitzilopochtli

His mother's pregnancy with him disturbed his brothers and sisters who tried to kill her, but Huitzilopochtli sprang from her fully adult and armed and slew his siblings. He was the Aztec god of the sun and war.

Huitzilopochtli

To make the fifth sun a god had to jump into the fire. The four creator gods decided it had to be Nanahuatl (Huitzilopochtli) or Teucciztecatl, but the former was too ugly, so they chose the latter. Teucciztecatl couldn't bring himself to jump in until Nanahuatl did so and became the sun. Then Teucciztecatl jumped in after and became the moon.
