Euthymenes the Explorer

Definition: Euthymenes is thought to have traveled along the west coast of Africa as far south as Senegal, in the fourth century B.C. Indicating Euthymenes' origin in Massilia, Plutarch says of Euthymenes: "Euthymenes the Massilian concludes that the Nile is filled by the ocean and that sea which is outward from it, the last being naturally sweet."
