Definition: The Valley of the Golden Mummies is the location of a very large ancient Egyptian cemetery holding perhaps 10,000 mummies, 254 of which were found with golden masks in 17 tombs. 14 Greco-Roman tombs have been found in the cemetery. The Valley of the Golden Mummies is near the Bahariya Oasis, 185 miles southwest of Cairo.
