The Archidamian War

Definition: The Archidamian War is one way of referring to the first ten years of the Peloponnesian War. Archidamus was a Spartan king. In his The Peloponnesian War, Donald Kagan describes Archidamus as a second-rank player and says the term should not be Archidamian War but "Ten Years War."
