Aulus Persius Flaccus

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Aulus Persius Flaccus or Persius was a Roman knight who came from Volterra, an Etruscan city. He studied grammar and rhetoric from Remmius Palaemon and Verginius Flavus, and then learned about Stoic philosophy from his friend Annaeus Cornutus, who published Persius' satires after his death. Persius probably also wrote an itinerary and a play, but is remembered for his satires.

Persius was born in A.D. 34 on December 4, and died in A.D. 62 on the 24th of November, according to the Life of Persius, by Suetonius.
