Diphilus

Definition: Diphilus was a Hellenistic Greek from Sinope who was born c.360–350 and died in Smyrna, in Turkey. Diphilus was a contemporary of Menander and also wrote New Comedy. The comedy of Diphilus was adapted for Roman audiences by the Roman comic playwrights Plautus and Terence. Diphilus won three times in the dramatic contests at the Lenaea in Athens. Sixty titles of his works are known, but only fragments of his writing have survived.
