Imhotep was a famous Egyptian priest, architect, and physician from the 27th century B.C. He was deified after death. The Greeks linked him with Asculapius.
The step pyramid at Saqqara (Sakkara, Saqqarah) is thought to have been designed, by the polymath Imhotep, for the 3rd Dynasty Pharaoh Djoser (Zoser). Saqqara was the necropolis for Old Kingdom pharaohs (starting with the 2nd Dynasty) who had their capital at Memphis.
