Rome - Roman Britain

The period of British history when it is appropriate to refer to it as Roman Britain runs from Julius Caesar's unsuccessful landing there in 55 B.C. to A.D. 410 when the Roman Emperor Honorius was too busy elsewhere to help. Here you'll find information on Britain and the Celtic tribes from the point they first came into conflict with the Romans to the time the Roman military left.

Rosemary Sutcliff Historical Fiction - Roman Britain Trilogy

"The Eagle of the Ninth" is the first in the series, its characters the ancestors of those in its sequel, "The Silver Branch." The final volume, "The Lantern Bearers," takes place during Vortigern's rule, in the late 5th century, in approximately the same area, between Aquae Sulis (Bath) and Rutupiae. This is one of my favorite historical fiction trilogies, even if it is rated for young adults.
