Definition: Umbria is the name of an ancient area of Italy. It was located east of Etruria, from the Tiber Valley to the Adriatic Sea. Umbria was bordered on the north by the Ager Gallicus. Umbria's neighbors were the Sabines and Picenum. The via flaminia awent through Umbria. During the Roman Empire, Umbria formed the 6th region of Italy.

The name Umbria comes from the name of people from the area, the Umbri, relatives of the Oscans.

Umbria's soil was fertile, producing olives, wines, and spelt.
