Hispania is the Latin name for the peninsula in which are found Spain and Portugal. Conquest of the area by Rome took from 218-19 B.C. Seneca, Lucan and several emperors came from Hispania. The province also supplied Rome with soldiers, gold, wool, wine, oil, and grain (especially after Roman irrigation was installed), as well as the plantations known as latifundia.
