Roman Empire 1st Century A.D. - Historical Atlas, by Robert H. Labberton, 1884.
Rome had spread out throughout the area surrounding the Mediterranean and was working on making more of Europe part of the Empire. Its territory included what is modern Spain and France, and the Near East area up to where the Parthian Empire took control somewhat to the east of Mesopotamia. To the northeast, the Roman Empire extended all along the southern and western coasts of the Black Sea and to Dacia and the Dneister River.
