The Roman Empire about 395 - From The Historical Atlas by William R. Shepherd, 1911.
By the end of the fourth century, the Roman Empire was firmly divided into a western and eastern empire. Power had been diffused by diving up the provinces into many small units. This map shows the prefectures and dioceses that were the subdivisions, as well as the area in which the barbarians lived.
