Consules Suffecti - Suffect Consuls

Definition: Consules suffecti 'Suffect Consuls' replaced the elected consuls (consules ordinarii) of ancient Rome when they resigned or died.
Also Known As: Suffect Consuls
Examples: In the first year of the Republic, the ordinary consuls were L. Junius Brutus and L. Tarquinius Collatinus, but they were replaced. P. Valerius Poplicola, Sp. Lucretius Tricipitinus, and M. Horatius Pulvillus served as suffect consuls.
