AUC - Ab Urbe Condita

By N.S. Gill, About.com

Definition: AUC stands for "ab urbe condita" which refers to the founding of Rome. The Romans reckoned their history from its legendary founding in 753 B.C., which was their zero year. Years were calculated from the base of AUC much as people today calculate A.D. or C.E. years from the year zero (or 753 AUC).

Livy wrote a history of Rome Ab Urbe Condita.
