- Nestor - from Gerenia in Messenia. King of Pylos. Nestor joined the Trojan War with his sons Antilochus and Thrasymedes. Nestor is old, but well-respected. Odysseus visits Nestor on his return home.
- Machaon - physician of the Greeks in the Trojan War and the son of Asclepius, from Thessaly.
- Diomedes - from Argos. One of the most fearless of the Greek leaders. His father was Tydeus.
- Odysseus - from Ithaca. One of the leaders of the Greeks who will vie with Ajax for the status of most worthy after Achilles.
- Agamemnon - lead king of the Greek forces, the brother of Menelaus.
- Zeus - king of the gods. Zeus attempts neutrality.
Known as Jupiter or Jove among the Romans and in some translations of the Iliad. - Poseidon - Sea god and brother of Zeus. Known to the Romans as Neptune. Poseidon sides with the Greeks here.
- Hera - queen of the gods, wife and sister of Zeus. Hera is on the side of the Greeks.
Known as Juno among the Romans and in some translations of the Iliad.
- Aphrodite - the goddess of love. She supports the Trojans and especially Paris. Here she gives a love charm to a lying Hera.
- Hypnos - the god of sleep whom Hera promises Pasithea as a wife if he will put Zeus to sleep. Pasithea is one of the Graces.
- Hector - champion of the Trojans and son of Priam.
- Ajax - the son of Telamon and Periboea, this Ajax is the one most people refer to when talking about Ajax. He was one of the foremost fighters in the Trojan War.
- Ajax - of Locris, son of Oileus. Bound by the Oath of Tyndareus and one of the Argonauts, he was in the belly of the Trojan Horse.
- Polydamas - a Trojan leader and son of Panthous.
- Archelochus - son of Antenor who served on the Trojan side with Aeneas and Acamas, and was killed by Ajax.
- Muse - There were three Muses originally, Aoede (song), Melete (pracice), and Mneme (memory), and later nine. They were the daughters of Mnemosyne (Memory).
