Major Figures in the Fifteenth Book of the Iliad
- Zeus - king of the gods. Zeus attempts neutrality.
Known as Jupiter or Jove among the Romans and in some translations of the Iliad. - Aphrodite - the goddess of love and winner of the apple of discord who promised Paris (Alexander) Helen. She supports the Trojans and especially Paris.
- Apollo - god of many attributes. Favors the Trojans.
- Ares - war god.
- Hector - champion of the Trojans and son of Priam.
- Hera - queen of the gods, wife and sister of Zeus. Hera is on the side of the Greeks.
Known as Juno among the Romans and in some translations of the Iliad. - Iris - messenger goddess.
- Nestor - from Gerenia in Messenia. King of Pylos. Nestor joined the Trojan War with his sons Antilochus and Thrasymedes. Nestor is old, but well-respected. Odysseus visits Nestor on his return home.
- Patroclus - loyal friend and companion of Achilles in the Trojan War.
- Poseidon - Sea god and brother of Zeus. Known to the Romans as Neptune. Poseidon harasses Odysseus on his homeward voyage.
- Teucer - a half-brother of Ajax and a son of Telamon.
- Ajax - the son of Telamon and Periboea, this Ajax is the one most people refer to when talking about Ajax. He was one of the foremost fighters in the Trojan War.
- Alexander - Paris - A prince of Troy who kidnapped Helen and started the Trojan War.
- Aeneas - Trojan prince and the son of Aphrodite.
- Periphetes - from Mycenae, the son of Copreus, who delivered messages to Hercules from Eurystheus.
- Protesilaus - the first Greek killed upon landing at Troy.
