  • Odysseus - Wandering Trojan War hero famed for his wiles. He is a favorite of Athena and disliked by Poseidon.
  • Irus (Arnaeus) - Beggar who challenges and then is beaten up by Odysseus.
  • Telemachus - Son of Odysseus who was left as a baby when Odysseus went off 20 years earlier to fight in the Trojan War.
  • Eumaeus - Faithful swineherd of Odysseus. He was the son of a king, but was kidnapped as a young boy and sold to Laertes, Odysseus father.
  • Penelope - Faithful wife of Odysseus and mother of Telemachus.
  • Eurynome - Maid of Penelope.
  • Antinous - Suitor. Son of Eupthes. Throws a stool at the stranger (Odysseus) and criticized for so doing by the other suitors.
  • Melantho - One of Penelope's unfaithful serving women who has been sleeping with Eurymachus.
  • Amphinomus - Son of Nisus the Dulichian, he is a suitor whom Odysseus tries to warn away.
  • Eurymachus - One of the suitors.
