From the article: Names or Synonyms for Rome
Response
- According to classical tradition (the Aeneid of Virgil,) the mytho-historical King Evander, originally of Arcadia, founded the city of Pallantium on the future cite of Rome less than a century before the Trojan war. By the time Romulus founded Rome, Pallantium was completely gone. So, "Pallantium" or some variation thereof could probably be used poetically to refer to Rome. "Latium" (lay-shum) Is a possibility, but it refers to the part of Italy that contains Rome, not to Rome itself. "Roma" is probably your best bet, because it means "Rome" in both Latin and Italian.
