Writing the Year in the Age of Nero

Monday January 17, 2005
From the Forum: "I'm a fiction writer and am currently working on a novel with sequences that occur in 61/62 AD during Nero's reign. My dilemma, however, is that back then, they surely did not refer to it as 61 AD. How do I find out what the year(s) would have been named by Roman contemporaries of that time? I have attempted to use Tacitus' Annals but every translation I find has converted the years to BC and AD."
