Jesus' Wife

By September 19, 2012

Follow me on:

You've probably heard that there is a papyrus fragment that includes a statement about Jesus' wife. This story is breaking and so there should be a lot of twists and turns to come. Here is a NY Times version of the story: 'The Gospel of Jesus' Wife'.

Update 1: Many questions are answered here: The Gospel of Jesus's Wife: A New Coptic Gospel Papyrus, from the Harvard Divinity School.

Update 2: Here is an updated report on the connection between Harvard and the Jesus' Wife papyrus: Harvard not yet publishing claim Jesus had wife.

Note that I did predict there would be lots of twists and turns on this story.

Should you want information on the language in which it was written, see Omniglot: Coptic, which explains that letters in Coptic not found in Greek, come from Demotic and that the Coptic alphabet arose in response to Greeks in Egypt in the 3rd century B.C.

The script seems to hint at a wife, but no other book of the Canonized Bible mentions a wife. It would not change my faith at all about Jesus if He had a wife. The Apostle Paul had to have a wife to be a part of the Sanhedrin but she was never mentioned. The Holy Grail has been hinted at being offspring of Christ and Mary Magdalene and any descendants of the union.

First I’ve heard of this. Interesting how entire theologies have been built on fragments of words strung together…

Jesus Christ referred to his wife not as a fleshly woman, but as the christian congregation.
A person does not need to be an divinity expert to do more unbiased and accurate research to arrive at that conclusion.
Also, if you consider that in the fourth century, there was a lot of speculation whether Jesus had a wife.
If he was married, he is still the mesiah.
nhe never wanted himself to be God, almighty.

It is somewhat alarming to see the sensationalism surrounding this finding, but that’s just par for the course for just about any story. It seems that a lot of people have an ax to grind, or are just looking to sell ads by getting people riled up. There’s not really much reason to believe Jesus was married, but even if there was, I can’t see how it would be much of a problem.

What the Gnostic writings has to do with the true gospel of salvation? They emerged in our days like zombies devouring lot of people.Through history many people had and tried to strip Jesus of His deity. The marriage is taken to be proof that He was not God in the flesh, but only a mortal man.Lies sell very well, the truth does not but always prevails and anything based on a lie is a lie.The Holy blood Holy grail pretend that Jesus escaped death on the cross and married Mary Magdalene. Then da vinci code pretend a secret marriage between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and the real blood of the grail is inside Mary based on the painting of the last supper by leonardo da vinci. Now a scholar has a writing words on a papyrus about Jesus wife and titled that papyrus in the shape of a credit card,a gospel! In the above fake stories there is a very dangerous and deceiving lie about the real blood and the wife. The truth is that REAL and HOLY blood is on Jesus’ forehead and not in the womb of Mary Magdalene or any other woman. This is revealed by souheil bayoud in the true story the coin of the temple. As for the wife, the impossibility of the marriage of Jesus is like the physical resurrection which cannot be seen by the blinds and is not and will not be revealed to opponents to Orthodox Christianity and the Church.
