On this day in 27 B.C., Octavian was well on the road to becoming the first emperor. He was starting his 7th consulship at the time of the First Constitutional Settlement. (The second was in 23 B.C. )
On January 13, 27 B.C. Octavian told the senate he would retire, but the senate wouldn't agree to let him go. To persuade him to stay, they offered him various provinces for ten years. On the 16th other honors were offered.
