By N.S. Gill, About.com

Definition: There are two Eddas, the Prose (or Younger or Snorra) Edda and the Poetic (or Elder) Edda. In the 13th century, Snorri Sturluson wrote down the Prose Edda, a poetic manual that was divided into three parts: Gylfaginning, Skáldskaparmál, and Háttatal. The Poetic Edda was written down in the 17th century. The Poetic Edda contains both heroic stories and Norse mythology.
