The Achaemenids were the dynasty of Persian kings who ruled Egypt [scroll down the page] and attacked Greece, eventually succumbing to their leader Alexander the Great, whose followers [see the Diadochi] established the Seleucid Empire in Asia and the Ptolemies in Egypt. The Sassanids, who followed Rome's eastern foe, the Parthians, were the kings at the time of the advent of Islam, making this a list of the kings in the first to last groups of kings of Persia in antiquity.
